LEGACY BENEFITS EXPANDS STAFF, NAMES COO

Legacy Benefits Corp. of New York named a new chief operating officer and is expanding its staff in an effort to increase its life settlement business.

“The life settlements field is poised for major growth as more and more people seek alternate investments yielding safe but high returns,” company president Meir Eliav, said in a statement. “As one of the first firms to specialize in the life settlements field, Legacy has an extensive understanding of the market and is committed to capitalizing on this background given the burgeoning interest on the part of investors.”

The company named Zohar Elhanani as chief operating officer in January. He was previously executive vice president of sales and operations for Real-TimeImage, an Internet-based medical technology company, acquired in 2005 by IDX Systems Corp.

Life Benefits also said earlier this month that it hired four new employees to build relationships with new brokers and agents, and to handle pricing, portfolio data and documentation for closed cases. An expanded legal staff also will help secure new licenses, negotiate contracts, and provide underwriting support for the purchase of policies.

Elhanani will lead the provider’s growth effort through acquisition of life settlements, the company said. He also will attempt to take a national role in defining the industry’s best practices.

While at IDX, he was managing director and remained in that position when the company was bought by GE Healthcare, where he helped integrate the two companies’ international operations.

Elhanani was also director of business development for Scitex, which developed digital printing systems for the graphic arts industry. He previously was a financial associate with Giza Venture Capital Fund, managing investments in the IT and communications areas.

“Zohar Elhanani has the skills and experience to make a vital contribution to our organization’s growth and the industry overall,” Eliav said in a press statement. “His broad background in operations with large companies such as GE, combined with his hands-on management experience with small, rapidly growing firms, is an excellent combination to help take our company to the next level.”
